Muscat: Palestine’s Shabab Al-Dhahrieh picked up their first points of the 2016 AFC Cup campaign on Wednesday when a goal by Abdalhalim Morjan helped secure a 1-1 draw with Oman’s Al Orouba in their Group C meeting.
Morjan gave the Palestinian side the lead after 32 minutes only for Moatasem Al Shibli to level midway through the second half as Al Orouba remained in second place in the group, two points behind leaders Air Force Club from Iraq.
The home side had the upper hand in the opening exchanges, but it was Al-Dhahrieh who went into the halftime break with the advantage after Morjan’s 32nd minute goal.
A neat pass from Izoddien Wriedat found Morjan on the edge of the area and his left-foot effort from distance was clinical.
Al Orouba eventually turned their domination of the second half into a goal in the 67th minute when Al Shibli collected Ahmed Saleem’s long pass before seeing off Musab Battat and scoring with a right-foot shot.
