Jonathan’s move to Palestino falls through

Earlier this week it seemed that Jonathan Cantillana’s move to Palestino was a mere formality. The player had been held out of the final of the Palestine Cup at the behest of both parties and all that was left was the signature on the dotted line.

Football Palestine has learned that the move fell through due to financial constraints facing Palestino. As a result, the midfielder will fly to Palestine next week to agree terms on a new one-year deal with Ahli Al-Khaleel.

His stint with Ahli Al-Khaleel last season saw them collect the most points in the second phase of the season en route to a third place finish and their third straight Palestine Cup title.

For their part, Ahli Al-Khaleel have signed Sameh and Hamada Maraaba from Thaqafi Tulkarem, bolstering their attack while weakening a direct rival that finished above them the last two seasons.

The addition of Jonathan and the expected returns of Abdallah Jaber and Shadi Shaaban should make Ahli early favorites for the 2017/18 WBPL title alongside holders Hilal Al-Quds.
