Palestine set to defend Gold Cup title


Football Palestine has learned thatPalestine will participate in the 2020 edition of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup later this month. The national team won the informal trophy in October 2018 following wins against Tajikistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh before overcoming Tajikistan on penalty kicks in the final. 
The format will mirror the one from two years ago. Six teams are due to participate- three from Asia and three from Africa. Palestine have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Bangladesh and fellow Asians Sri Lanka. Group B features Burundi, Seychelles, and Mauritius. 
The tournament will run form January 13th to January 26th. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals. 
The squad of participating players has not been revealed but HSC Hannover has announced that Olympic Team standout Mohammed Darwish has been called up to represent the senior team for the first time.
