Ahmad Al-Qaq signs with USL side Sporting JAX
Al-Qaq, one of Palestine's breakthrough talents of 2025, has a new club following the dissolution of North Carolina FC.
It has been a whirlwind twelve months for Ahmad Al-Qaq who at this time last year had yet to kick a football as a professional.
A first ever professional contract with North Carolina FC yielded 28 appearances across all competitions. The former Tarheel notched three assists in ten starts and parlayed that form to a first ever call-up to the national team in June 2025.
Al-Qaq’s first appearance came against Euskadi in San Mamés and his performances in the build up to the Arab Cup saw him play a part in all the tournament’s games. Against Qatar, Al-Qaq provided the cross that led to the Palestine’s winning goal deep into injury time.
The reason for Al-Qaq’s move is down to the fact that this club, North Carolina FC, folded as a professional organization in 2025. Sporting Jacksonville is an expansion side who will contest their first season in the United Soccer League Championship (the second tier of football in the United States) this year. On the same day of Al-Qaq’s signing, Sporting announced the signing of two other former NCFC players.
Sporting JAX will make their official debut on March 7th against Hartford Athletic.

Hey, great read as always. Al-Qaq's journey is inspiring, reflecting the precariety in sport.
