Mohammed Rashid seals move to East Bengal
The veteran midfielder leaves Indonesia after two seasons with Bali United and Persebaya.
Mohammed Rashid is on the move for the third summer in a row. The 30-year has signed a one year deal with Indian Super League Club East Bengal and will be one of the focal points of a new project under the auspices of Spanish head coach Oscar Brúzon who lauded the signing earlier this week:
“Rashid is a disciplined and strong-minded defensive midfielder, known for his ball-winning ability, interceptions, tactical awareness, leadership, high work-rate and mobility. While primarily an anchor, Rashid has evolved his playing style to contribute offensively with good distribution and long-range shooting” he said.
Rashid’s first experience abraod was in the Saudi second tier with Al-Jeel which led to him signing with Persib in Indonesia back in 2021. A brief stint with Smouha in Egypt and a return home to WBPL side Jabal Al-Mukaber (where he won the double) followed before returning to Indonesia in 2023 with Bali United.
The midfielder’s time in Indonesia comes to a close with 92 league appearances and 14 goals for Persib, Bali United, and Persebaya.
The midfielder told Football Palestine that he has sights set on delivering a first ever Indian Super League playoff appearance to the Mariners.
Rashid is one of only nine Palestinian with over 50 international caps. He hit the milestone in a 1-1 draw vs. South Korea in a November World Cup qualifier.
