Squad to face Algeria A' in October doubleheader revealed
The injury bug strikes again as a younger players look to stake their claim to a spot in the national team
Palestine will be without their captain Musab Al-Battat and several other key players as injury has ruled out Amid Mahajna, Ataa Jaber, Badr Moussa, Adam Kaied, Oday Dabbagh, and Wessam Abou Ali. Seven of the eight names had started at least one of the final June World Cup qualifiers meaning this month’s friendlies against Algeria’s Arab Cup squad could be a baptism of fire for many in the squad.
Agustín Manzur also misses out as Guaraní is playing critical matches during the international window and are chasing the Clausura title.
A changing of the guard has taken place as Mohammed Saleh has been dropped from the squad. Mohammed Rashid has not been called for the third straight camp under Ehab Abu Jazar.
The rest of the squad is as follows:
A shortage of attacking players means we will likely see a lot of the known entities: Zaid Qunbar and Tamer Seyam. Assad Al-Hamlawi is expected to be handed his first start in a national team jersey while Khaled Al-Nabris will have a chance to overtake Omar Faraj in the pecking order as the fourth choice striker.
In search for a spark in the middle of the pitch there are recalls for Moustafa Zeidan and Anas Bani Owda. Abdulhadi Rashid who was with the Olympic team last month is a surprise addition to the squad while Ibrahim Abuimier is the latest centreback to be a given a chance to work his way into the side.
Given the raft of injuries it was surprising not to see the likes of Mohammed Hebous, Ahmed Al-Qaq in addition to more standouts from the Olympic team like Khalid Abu El Haija, Mohammed Sandouqa, and Hadi Dawkar.
For their part, Algeria has called up a strong squad using the spine of its local side and supplementing with 12 players playing abroad in Canada, England, Russia, France, Portugal, Qatar, Tunisia, and Saudi Arabia.
