Two decades ago a film crew from Chicago embedded with an interesting iteration of the national team. Palestine had used the intervening years following their first World Cup qualification campaign in 2001 to scout the diaspora and add quality players to help Palestine get to the next level.
The second Intifada had caused the local leagues to grind to a halt but the influx of talent, funding from a a group of businessmen headed by Tayseer Barakat, and a wily Austrian coach meant the team punched above its weight.
Two decades on some of the team’s achievements still live on including Palestine’s largest ever World Cup qualification win: 8-0 vs. Chinese Taipei. You can watch the entire documentary on our YouTube Channel using the link below (Don’t forget to subscribe there as well!)
