Yaser Hamed signs for Al-Khor
Palestine international's annus horribilis comes to an end with a start, clean sheet, and win hours after putting pen to paper
Yaser Hamed has a new home. The Athletic Club academy product has changed clubs every year since making a move to the Bahraini topflight with Busaiteen in 2020.
His stated intention was to stay in Qatar and he has now realized that ambition signing with Qatari second division side Al-Khor for the remainder of the year. Al-Khor had spent 40 straight seasons in the topflight before suffering relegation in 2020/21. Two seasons in the second division ended in 2023/24 with promotion only for the team to go straight back down last year.
The first half of the season did not go well for Al-Khor who find themselves second to last with the second worst defensive record in the league.
Hamed’s presence and experience should help Al-Khor steady the ship as they look to climb up the rankings in the second half of the season.
The defender wasted no time in making an impact. He started yesterday’s QSL Cup match against leaders Al-Rayyan and went the full 90 minutes, posting a clean sheet, and helping Al-Khor register a crucial win that lifts them above the playoff line.
Hamed spent last 18 months with Al-Gharafa but was not able to obtain a Palestine player exemption to be registered as a local. As result he played one match- in the Asian Champions League Elite- since the start of the 2024/25 season.
The lack of playing time cost Yaser Hamed his starting spot with the national team. He was dropped following a 4-1 loss to Iran at the Asian Cup but started and played a big part in a pair of draws against South Korea in Round three of World Cup qualification.
Mohammed Saleh’s return to form led to him being dropped from the starting line up again. The 28 year old was the only outfield player not to feature for Palestine at last month’s FIFA Arab Cup.
